Our Story

VIP Automotive Group History

From a single franchise to one of the most respected dealership groups in the nation.

Our Roots

Where It All Began

In 1957, Leon and Charlotte Sporn received a Western Union telegram that would change their family's future: "Congratulations — your franchise has been approved." With that, Westbury Nash, Inc. opened its doors at 473 Old Country Road in Westbury, New York, opposite Roosevelt Raceway.

What began as a small family dealership selling Nash and Rambler vehicles has grown into one of the most respected automotive groups in the United States. Three generations later, VIP Automotive Group operates ten dealerships across Long Island, the Hudson Valley, and New Jersey — but the Sporn family's founding commitment to honest dealing and personal service has never changed.

Milestones

Our Journey Through the Decades

1957

The Beginning

Leon and Charlotte Sporn open Westbury Nash at 473 Old Country Road in Westbury, New York — right across from Roosevelt Raceway. The franchise approval came by Western Union telegram from American Motors Sales Corp, and the first delivery of Nash vehicles arrived that same year. A family business was born.

Early Advertising & Growth

Westbury Rambler takes out its first newspaper advertisements, promising Long Island buyers 'Drive a little — save a lot' on the popular 1959 Rambler lineup. The dealership quickly earns a reputation for honest dealing and competitive pricing, with a leasing department already in operation.

New Brands & New Beginnings

Under Leon Sporn's steady leadership, the dealership navigates the shifting automotive landscape of the 1970s. As Nash and Rambler give way to AMC, the business adapts — expanding its brand partnerships and laying the groundwork for multi-franchise growth on Long Island.

The Jeep Era Begins

VIP opens its AMC Jeep, Eagle, and Renault showroom in a grand opening event. The lot fills with new models and the showroom buzzes with energy. This marks a pivotal expansion — Jeep would go on to become one of the group's most iconic and enduring brand partnerships.

Building the VIP Name

The VIP brand becomes synonymous with quality service and customer care across Long Island. As the automotive industry consolidates — Chrysler acquires AMC and Jeep in 1987 — the Sporn family steers the business through the transition, strengthening its Jeep franchise and building lasting relationships with the Nassau County community.

1990s

Multi-Location Expansion

VIP grows beyond a single rooftop, acquiring additional dealership locations and expanding into new brand partnerships. The group establishes a presence across Nassau County, bringing the same family-first approach to each new location and building a network that serves more Long Island communities.

2000s

State-of-the-Art Facilities

Major investments in modern sales and service facilities bring the dealership experience into the 21st century. New showrooms, expanded service bays, and updated customer amenities reflect VIP's commitment to matching best-in-class facilities with the personal service that built the business.

2010s

Community Leadership

VIP deepens its community involvement with programs like the Great American Jeep Giveaway and Healthcare Heroes initiative. The group earns recognition not just as a dealership operator but as a genuine community partner, supporting local charities, first responders, and Long Island families.
